Cpl William (Bill) Kuffrey, USMC
I served in Vietnam with the Marine Corps from approximately May 1967 to April 1968 assigned to H&S Co as well as C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. I came to know Father Capodanno well. He lifted my spirit on many occasions through a period of several months before his death. I think I may have been one of the last ones to see him before he boarded a helicoptor to go into an area where a full scale firefight was taking place. It was several days later that I heard the news of his death. I was crushed. I am not a Catholic but this Man of God meant more to me than I ever could have imagined. He inspired me in so many ways in my times of need while in the combat zones of Vietnam. I will never forget him.....ever.
I knew Father Capodanno 40 years ago and I've always thought about him from time to time. It was today (2-13-08) that I entered his name on the internet and found this website. I am so thankful I did. Until now....I never knew he had been awarded the Medal of Honor. I don't believe anyone could have been more deserving.

Father Capodanno was a True Man of God...and I miss him.
