Author Daniel Mode, a priest of the Arlington Diocese in Virginia, comes from a Navy family. His own father, a Captain by rank, brought his family to places as diverse as Korea, Virginia, Alaska and Hawaii. Fr Mode's brother rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Fr. Mode himself now serves as commissioned US Navy chaplain, completed 22 month tour in Afghanistan, served as chaplain at the Coast Guard Academy and as of the summer of 2011 is preparing for an overseas tour of duty. The author's education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with advanced degrees in theology and church history. While studying at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary, he stumbled upon the research that led him to the previously hidden life of Fr. Capodanno which became the basis of his thesis, and ultimately the premise of the book, The Grunt Padre, now in its third printing.
