One of our priests, Fr Joseph Peek, is very ill. Our parish is invoking the intercession of Fr Vincent Capodanno, at the request of Fr Peek. We are asking for a mircle and, if it be God's will, the mircle will bring Fr. Capodanno closer to sainthood.

I am signing this guest book and asking for prayers on behalf of our associate pastor, Fr. Joseph Peek. He has asked us to pray for a miracle through the intercession of Fr. Vincent Capodanno. Fr. Peek has been battling cancer and its complications for years and is in the military. He has just been taken to the hospital on 8-25-08. I ask for everyone who reads this to pray for Fr. Joseph Peek of Mary Our Queen parish in Norcross, Georgia. Thanks in advance!

A request for prayer came to us from a soldier, Gary, serving in Iraq for his wife, Cindy.  She is at home with their five year old son and fighting stage four cervical cancer. Her chances for survival have been declared very slim. It was suggested to some of us to turn to  Fr. Vincent Capodano.  May  he speak eloquently to our Lord for this miracle request.

I am from Western New York and in the process of changing the name of our local Knights of Columbus Assembly, Batavia Assembly, to the Fr. Viincent R. Capodanno Assembly.  I wanted to be able to recognize a fellow New Yorker who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our nation.  I was informed from the Supreme Knights that the name change will go thru but it will take time.  I feel this is another great honor to a great American.

My son has been in Iraq since Sept 07. Our prayer is that by Dec 08 he can return safely home to his wife and children. In the mean time, I have entrusted him into the care of Fr Capodanno, and placed my son under his constant care. I know I don't have to worry about my son because the Padre is able to be there watching out for him. I am reminded of it nearly every day in some small way. My Son was a Marine in the late 90 and then entered the Army, 101st a few years ago. It's his life, as it was for the Grunt Padre.

I was so excited when I turned on EWTN and saw Father Mode speaking about his life, and service to the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.
I have a son who joined the Coast Guard in 2007 and a son who just joined early enlistment and was sworn into the Marine Corp this week. I have many novenas going for them both, but to hear about Father Capadanno and him being with the Marines was so exciting. It gave me great comfort, both the work that Father Mode does, and my new Saint to pray to for my Marine. Thank you so much for the information. Cannot wait to share it with the other Marines in the family

I am a 16 year Navy Veteran. When I was  kid growing up on Staten Island, NY, I remember when they Renamed sand Blvd as "Father Capodanno Blvd. The Knights of Columbus has a great party on South beach. I was proud to be from Staten Island when I learned of Fr. Vincent and how he served in Vietnam. I pray his cause is forwarded. God bless him and may he be an example to all military chaplains.

I served in Vietnam with the Marine Corps from approximately May 1967 to April 1968 assigned to H&S;Co as well as C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. I came to know Father Capodanno well. He lifted my spirit on many occasions through a period of several months before his death. I think I may have been one of the last ones to see him before he boarded a helicoptor to go into an area where a full scale firefight was taking place. It was several days later that I heard the news of his death. I was crushed. I am not a Catholic but this Man of God meant more to me than I ever could have imagined. He inspired me in so many ways in my times of need while in the combat zones of Vietnam. I will never forget him.....ever.

I knew Father Capodanno 40 years ago and Ive always thought about him from time to time. It was today (2-13-08) that I entered his name on the internet and found this website. I am so thankful I did. Until now....I never knew he had been awarded the Medal of Honor. I dont believe anyone could have been more deserving.

Father Capodanno was a True Man of God...and I miss him.

We (my wife and I) are Eastern Catholics and both Viet Nam vets. We ask Fr. Capodanno daily to help and protect our son who is a Marine and now in the Alaska Guard in Iraq. The icon of Fr. Capodanno has been in our family prayer corner for over five years (ever since my son became a Marine). Great site and thank you.

I am a 7th grade religion teacher at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in Martinsville Indiana.
Every year my class has adopted one or two servicemen. They write to our serviceman and bake and send him Christmas cookies. Two or three of our adoptees have been marines. This year I have a new assistant instructor. She brought in the book The Grunt Padre. I read it and loved it. I feel somehow I know him personally.
I found Father Capodannos life story very inspirational. I plan to use some of the passages from the book in class this year.
In the category of its a small world -- I asked my son (who served in the Navy as a chaplains assistant and who was stationed in Newport Rhode Island for most of his time in the service) if he had ever heard of Father Capodanno. He of course had heard of him. He asked how I knew about him. I told him about the book. My son said that he was on the USS Capodanno for two weeks and participated in the decommissioning. He said that he even had polished the ships bell which is now in Newport Rhode Island.

Fr. Vincent is my Uncle Vincent. I was 14 in 1967 when he was killed in Vietnam. I have many memories of him and letters from him. The Grunt Padre captures much of his spirit. My Catholic Moms group has written our own prayer to him for intercessions.
Even as a youngster I knew he was special and that I knew no one else like him. When he walked into a room it was as though a celebrity arrived. He was never interested in anything petty

I am a former Marine and for the last 17 years a police detective in suburban Wash DC. I recently read the book about Fr. Capodanno and was deeply moved. My father served two tours in Vietnam as a Navy Corpsman and as a child, told me a story of the Grunt Padre...never serving along side of Lt. Capodanno, but knowing his reputation throughout the Marine Corps serving in the combat theatre. I am not a Catholic but wish you every success and Gods blessings upon your efforts in the cause for canonization for Fr. Vince....his life, service and death have caused me to reflect on my own Christian walk, my obedience to God, and how a servant of Christ should live. Semper Fidelis!

I ask this servant of God, and with Gods help, future Saint, to fortify my two sons with a fraction of the courage he displayed, that they may serve God,this country, and their fellow citizens as God sees fit.

My son Elijah is being confirmed this year. He read The Grunt Padre and has taken the name Vincent as his confirmation name... Wonder of wonders! Father Mode instructed me when I was entering the church some 16 years ago. God bless!

I grew up in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, and attended PS 44 with Vinnie. I was also a member of St. Michaels & St. Clements Parish. I worked with Vinnie at the CYO Summer Day Camp on Staten Island. I left the Minor Seminary at Cathedral College and entered Manhattan College.

I would like to obtain a relic of Father Capadanno to work for the cause of his beatification & eventual cannonization. If any member of Vinnies family recalls the Pandullo family from Mariners Harbor, I would like to be in touch with them.
