| Dear Supporters of the Cause of Canonization for Fr. Vincent Capodanno, MM To acknowledge the 79 years since his birth on February 13, 1929, I am privileged to share with you some significant developments concerning Servant of God Vincent Robert Capodanno, MM. In the past few months, various media representatives have contacted my office requesting information about Fr. Capodanno for upcoming newspaper articles, radio interviews, documentaries, and educational presentations. The recently published Saints of Asia: 1500 to the Present by Vincent J. O’Malley, C.M. contains a chapter about Fr. Capodanno. On February 16, 2008, at its annual Gyrene Gala, Ave Marie University in Florida will honor Fr. Capodanno as well as John Cardinal O’Connor by posthumously inducting them into the Gallery of Gyrene Greats. Congressional representatives have submitted a petition to the Secretary of the Navy for consideration that a ship bear Fr. Capodanno’s name. Despite such noteworthy tributes reflecting Fr. Capodanno’s virtuous life and sacrificial death, perhaps the most powerful indications that he has continued to inspire so many souls are the numerous testimonies from those seeking his intercession and their subsequent answered prayers. Following his lifetime example of Christian discipleship, Fr. Capodanno now serves as a spiritual companion that we may turn to in encountering daily hardships and burdens. May we give thanks for the life of Fr. Vincent Capodanno, priest, missionary, and chaplain, whose holiness, humility and courage have touched countless lives. |
